Countdown to 2018, Let’s get together!

Let’s get together yeah yeah yeah! What could be a better way to welcome the New Year than to be in the company of family and great friends, with food glorious food, aye? Let alone those ultraexpensive New Year Eve celebrations – just come out to the Sede after your healthy home-cooked dinner and enjoy a bom (good as in quality) bonito (beautiful) barrato (well priced) noite (night) a (at) nossa (our) Casa (home)!

It will be an informal after-dinner gathering, together with the Casa’s brand new karaoke machine, so bring a snack to share and to tie you over till 2018. Beverages will be available all night. After the countdown, you will be pampered with outstanding refreshments. Do plan to stay into the wee hours of 2018 to continue karaoke or chat or do whatever.

Members-only deadline is Wednesday, December 20, 2017, and thereafter registration will be open to Guests and Non-members. The general deadline is Wednesday, December 27, 2017, to allow sufficient lead-time for refreshments preparation. Seating capacity is 80 persons.

CHRISTMAS IN PORTUGAL

Don’t miss this unique cultural and fun-filled event! A full menu has been designed especially for you – come and enjoy authentic Portuguese cuisine as you celebrate “Christmas in Portugal” with your fellow Casa members! There will be taped music for your listening pleasure and/or dancing and/or singing along and a cash bar to keep you hydrated throughout the evening!

Potluck Dinner

Based on the positive feedback from many of the members regarding having another pot-luck to share with our members and friends. Our Casa will host this special evening close to Halloween weekend, and members can come dressed in costumes.

When registering please advise whether you will bring a meat, vegetable dish or dessert. (Casa will provide steam rice and beverages).

The registration deadline for members is Saturday, October 16, 2017, after which attendance will be open to guests of members. (Attendance is limited to 60 persons).

Chinese New Year Dinner: Year of the Rooster

Limitation Dates: The cut-off date for members only is Tuesday, January 24, and thereafter, members may register their guests

The final cut-off date is Tuesday, January 31 when we have report the number of tables to the restaurant.

Please bear in mind:  the thing with Chinese dinners is that the cost is per table, not per person. As such, it would be helpful if members would get together to form a table of 10 and advise Angela or Fernanda of who will be at the table.

Payment: there will be an envelope on each table with the names of the people at that table; please insert the appropriate cash amount (no cheques) so that we can pay the restaurant at the end of the dinner.

HALLOWEEN POTLUCK NIGHT with Live Music

Based on the positive feedback from many of you who attended to last event, we have decided to repeat this and being the Halloween weekend, you can come dressed in costumes. Should be fun. Music will be provided again by Mike Remedios, Francis da Costa, Ann-Marie Carter, Nick Domingo, Simon Yao and Thomas Ting. The evening will begin with a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. and followed by the live music at approximately 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 pm.

This is a joint member participation event and all attendees shall contribute to the Potluck dinner. When registering, please advise whether you will bring a meat dish, vegetable dish or dessert. Steamed white rice which will be provided by the Casa. ANY MACANESE FOOD OR DESSERT WILL BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

Attendees may team up with one another in arranging for their Potluck share and this shall be arranged directly between yourselves. Guests as always are welcome but the inviting member(s) will be responsible for their guest(s) Potluck share.

Beverage will be provided by the Casa.

The participation fee:

1. $5.00 (1/2 price for member child 12 and under) per member plus a dish of food; and
2. $10.00 (1/2 price for guest child 12 and under) per guest of member plus a dish of food.

LIVE MUSIC and POTLUCK NIGHT

Our President, Francis da Costa with Mike Remedios and his musician friends have kindly agreed to provide live music. The evening will begin with a potluck dinner at 6:00 p.m. and followed by the live music at approximately 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 pm.

An Authentic Chinese Meal to Celebrate an Authentic Chinese Occasion:
Lunar New Year - Year of the Monkey

Since the cost is calculated on a "per table" basis, each child 5 years to 9 years, both years inclusive, will be considered 1/2 an adult to a table (limit of 2 paying children to a table); every effort will be made to accommodate children; if there is a significant number of children, consideration will be made to accommodate a children-only table at $15.00 per head and we will order separately for them.

Christmas Party - Saturday, December 12, 2015

Your Cultural and Social Committees are getting together to celebrate this coming Christmas with a party for all our members and their families.

Registration deadline for members and members' children: Tuesday, December 1, 2015; thereafter registration will be open to non-members, guests and their children.

Cha-gordo will be served at 4:00 p.m. for the children, with a present for each child. Please provide the ages and gender of the children who will be attending. Adult attendees without children are most welcome to attend.

Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. The tentative menu includes tacho, minchi, arroz gordo, and macau prawns, and for dessert, an array of our traditional Macanese desserts.

Our President, Francis da Costa and his musician-friends will entertain us with music and most probably sing-along Christmas carols, beginning at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Line Dancing and Informal Drop-in

Information:

1. A line dancing session will be led by Maria King as requested by some members.
2. The Sede will be open between the said hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. (times are approximate)

Information:

2. Members and their guests are welcome to drop in any time within these hours;
3. Mahjong tables are limited, so usage will be on a first come, first served basis;
4. No refreshments served this time. Please bring your own.

CELEBRATION OF THE FEAST OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST

The Feast of St. John the Baptist is always celebrated with an abundance of fruit. On the actual Feast Day, being June 24, our Macanese belief is that no matter how much fruit one eats, one will not get an upset stomach. One may exercise right away, or even drink water immediately after eating longans (dragon eyes)! Or perhaps like the good old days in Hong Kong, when we would go on launch picnics, and after a somewhat smaller-than-usual dinner, we would swim, eat fruit on board, swim again, eat fruit on board, and so on; we would even dive off the side of the launch!

In keeping with our Macanese culture and tradition, we will be celebrating Dia de San Joao and there will definitely be an abundance of fruit. However, since June 24 is a weekday when it would be difficult for people to attend, your Cultural and Social Committee(s) have selected the closest possible day, being Saturday, June 27. St. John the Baptist would certainly not mind looking after you on June 27!

This gathering is also to welcome our Executive Committee for 2015-2016.

The dinner will be a pot-luck. All attendees will pay the normal user fee and are hereby requested to bring a dish of food (to go with steamed white rice). It is certainly in order to team up with your fellow members so that you can make a larger dish. Depending on what you intend to make, sometimes it is easier to make a larger dish and share the cost between a few people - your option.

Your organizers recognize that bringing a dish of food may be problematic for some members and/or their guests, and in this regard, please contact either Angela Renfro or Fernanda Ho to make alternate prior arrangements. Otherwise, we will look forward to welcoming you and your dish of food. The Casa will provide steamed white rice, fruits and beverage.

Caring and Sharing Potluck Day!

Let's celebrate Valentine's Day in unison with the upcoming new Lunar Year of the Ram

Valentine's Day gives us the opportunity to let others know how much we care for them and with the new Lunar Year of the Ram coming up, let's celebrate the two special occasions with an evening of fun with our fellow members and friends. Those actual dates may be busy ones for many, therefore we will be having our event earlier to enable more of our members to attend.

The last time we had a potluck, we had rave reviews of that event. The members saw how many fantastic "chefs" we have in our Casa, members who could cook different kinds of food. The dishes prepared excelled many of the other dishes they had ever tasted before and they have requested that our Socials should have more of these events. So, responding to their request, we will celebrate Valentines' Day in unison with the upcoming Lunar Year of the Ram with another Sharing and Caring Potluck Day.

This will be your chance to show off your culinary skills. Whip up a generous portion of fried rice, fried noodles, curry, Macanese food or any other particular dish that you are great at making. You might want some of the other members to taste, appreciate and compliment you on your cooking, so please make enough to share with others. If you have to work that day or just won't have the time to cook something, we understand. Simply pop into a restaurant and order something that you would like to bring to the potluck. We will all enjoy that too!

Surprise our members with what you bring. That's the fun of having a potluck!!!!!! You may be surprised to find a whole roast pig there for your dining pleasure. Rice, salads, butter and buns will be provided. For the ones who have a sweet tooth, oh yes, there will be desserts galore. Regular tea, Chinese tea, coffee and pop too.

After dinner, no need to rush off, stay behind and socialize and chat with your fellow members. Do some line dancing or ballroom dancing or join the karaoke singers for an evening of fun.

Due to the limited space, we will need to know who would like to join in this Caring and Sharing Potluck Day. Our Social Co-ordinator, Lyce Rozario is on the "wait" list for major surgery, so please contact our 1st VP Cathy Xavier Fung to confirm with her your attendance and any guests you would like to invite. It would be great if you would kindly let her know what dish of food you intend to bring that day. You may pay your User Fee when you come to the Sede that evening.

Summer Pot Luck Evening

A Caring and Sharing Time for All!

In June we had a great “Fun and Fellowship Evening”. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed themselves. Many eagerly asked about the next event, so here we go again with yet more fun time for our members with just a slight difference.

This time, you show us your culinary skills!!! I am sure that there are lots of great chefs amongst our Casa members, so please let them enjoy and have a taste of your specialty.

Make your favourite dish of food and let your fellow members know what a fantastic cook you are by letting them have a taste of it. Please be generous with your portion, so that more can enjoy what you have cooked for us. If you are joining with another family member or friend to prepare the same dish, please bring a larger portion of that food.

There will be rice, buns, butter, salads and desserts provided, so please just bring a main dish and put your name under the Pyrex or corning ware. They all look similar and we would like to be sure that they won’t get mixed up. Please remember to take your own food container home after the event.

After dinner, put on your dancing shoes and prance around to work off the calories or sing your hearts out when the karaoke is on. Bring along a musical instrument and discover a new talent amongst our Casa members!

Nothing fancy, just an evening of fellowship with our Casa members and friends with singing and dancing and the chance to enjoy a variety of great food prepared by ourselves that will certainly make It a memorable and fun day for us all. You may even pick up a new recipe that evening.
